Why Choose GKinetic?
GKinetic offers innovative and adaptable solutions for harnessing renewable energy in challenging environments. Our turbines are designed to operate efficiently in as little as 50 cm of water and are versatile enough for both man-made and natural water flows. With scalable options that can be fixed or floating, our robust yet lightweight aluminium turbines are 98% recyclable, making them both eco-friendly and cost-effective to deploy.
We have successfully navigated regulatory hurdles, securing planning permission for Europe’s first floating tidal energy array in a Natura 2000 protected area, further demonstrating our commitment to sustainability. Backed by 10 granted patents (with 3 more pending) and extensive field testing, our designs are built on invaluable real-world data and insights. Led by a passionate, experienced, and dynamic team, GKinetic is dedicated to driving innovation in renewable energy.

Risk Mitigation
Our team can offer tailored risk mitigation plans for a specific project and will work with you to address key concerns. The most common risks and ways that we address them include:

Flooding Mitigation
- Modelling of impacts on water levels and flow velocity.
- Using a staged, step by step approach of installation, beginning with 1st station.
- Monitoring and intervention plan.

Debris Mitigation
- Machine is designed to deflect debris and a pro-active maintenance schedule and monitoring system will be put in place.
- Remote alarm systems will alert if one of the turbines is not performing properly.
- An onboard camera (powered by the turbine) can be checked from a mobile device.

Negative Environmental Impacts Mitigation
- The design encourages easy passage of fish as the channel is not blocked.
- The acceleration of flow through the turbines has been modelled at all states of flow.
- We proactively engage with Inland Fisheries, OPW & various regulatory bodies.
The technology has been independently assessed by leading environmental impact experts and has received planning in a Special Area of Conservation with approval from key fishery & environmental bodies. Queen’s University Belfast researchers monitored environmental impacts with no negative effects witnessed over a 6 month period. All demonstrations to date, show zero negative impacts and excellent handling of debris with easy O&M procedures.
