Future-proof your energy security with GKinetic
GKinetic Energy offers a range of solutions that generate energy from free-flowing water assets such as rivers, canals and estuaries. Operating in depths as low as 50 cm and minimum widths of 3 metres, our simple and affordable equipment delivers baseload power where it makes a difference. An ideal complement or alternative to solar, hydrokinetic turbines output clean power consistently through the night-time and Winter months, when you need it most.
Core Product
Our core product is a turnkey floating unit comprising; two vertical axis hydrokinetic turbines, fixed either side of a bluff body, with an accessible floating platform above the water housing electrical equipment and generators.
Moored in place like a boat, it self-aligns with bidirectional tidal flows and can be towed and moved easily.
Our market-ready units, range from 1 – 12kW install capacity and we can advise you on the best option depending on your site needs and energy profile.
For larger projects with higher energy needs our device can be scaled up for higher outputs and multiple units can also be deployed in arrays.

The Benefits

Energy Security
We offer dependable generation, helping you secure your business or home’s energy future. Hydrokinetic energy is predictable and an ideal baseload supply, complementing other more intermittent generation sources like solar & wind. Often outputting most power during the Winter months & working through the night time, it’s there when you need it.

Cost Savings
You are in an incredibly fortunate position as your home or business is right alongside a river, canal or estuary. As energy bills rise and uncertainty around security of future electricity or fossil fuel supply grows, you have a highly valuable resource for dependable energy generation right on your doorstep and GKinetic Energy is here to help you harness it.

Simplicity
Quick and easy to deploy, it can be moved if necessary. Simple and affordable O&M, replacement parts and servicing. No foundations or civil works required. Cutting down on capex and making it simple to rewild the site after use.

Sustainable
Energy generated is clean, renewable and zero carbon, contributing to climate action targets and adding green generation capacity. Materials and product life-cycle have considered long-term use, recyclability and potential negative impacts. When adopted at scale, this product can significantly shape the future energy mix.
The easiest way to generate energy from water
Our compact, environmentally friendly design means quick & easy deployment, simple servicing and highly efficient, reliable energy production making it a powerful addition to your onsite generation equipment.
1. HOUSING
Offers quick and easy access to generators.
2. TURBINES
Rotate outwards slowly, deflecting fish and debris.

3. PLATFORM
This can be seen on the surface, with a low-lying sleek design.
4. UNIQUE
Design produces more power from slower flow speeds accelerating water simply and safely.
What Makes GKinetic Energy Unique
The vast energy potential in free-flowing water sources remains largely untapped as 90-95% of waterways have flow speeds below 2.5m/s limiting current exploitation. GKinetics Hydrokinetic turbine stands out, operating at significantly lower flow speeds than competitors, providing a substantial advantage in harnessing this power.

Simple
Our design uses a very simple concept to generate more power from slower, more average flow speeds. The next time you’re crossing a bridge, take a look to see how the water accelerates out and around the bridge pillar.

Safe
Slow turbines, rotating outwards along with a naturally occurring pressure field in front of the device means that debris, fish and any other suspended materials in the water are deflected out and around the unit.

Sustainable
Made from 98% recyclable materials, huge consideration has gone into ensuring our products are as sustainable as possible with simple deployment methods and ease of accessibility for maintenance and repairs.

The Power is in your hands
Our remote monitoring and connectivity app gives you control & peace of mind, offering:
- A live feed of power production
- Emergency, remote stop and start control
- Optional security camera live feed add-on
Putting environment, safety & operations first

GKinetic solutions require no disruptive civil infrastructure, they are simply moored like a boat and can be quickly moved if necessary.

A design that deflects water out and around the turbines with rotors turning no faster than the water itself meaning unparalleled safety and extremely low risk of impact with wildlife, fish and debris.

Visually, a low lying platform is what can be seen from the surface and this can be designed to blend in with the surrounding environment.

No audible noise from the units and a remote monitoring system alerts to any issues so that they can be quickly dealt with.

The technology has been independently assessed by leading environmental impact experts and has received planning in a Special Area of Conservation with approval from key fishery & environmental bodies.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the minimum water depth required for one of your units to work?
Our smallest unit rated at 1kW requires just 50cm of depth to operate.
- What happens in a site when the water level drops below the minimum depth required?
Our units are designed to ‘dry out’ and sit on the riverbed so it’s not a problem if the site dries out at certain times of year.
- How do you manage debris?
Our unique design naturally deflects debris, fish and wildlife out and away from the device. Similar to the pillar of a bridge, our bluff body design creates a pressure field in front of the unit and this, coupled with the fact that our turbines rotate outwards means that any suspended materials are deflected away from the turbine.
- What is the minimum width of a water channel that your unit needs?
Our smallest unit requires a channel or river that is at least 3 metres wide. This allows 1 metre of space either side of the unit to allow safe passage of fish, debris etc.
- How do you know that your unit does not harm fish or wildlife?
We have spent 10 years extensively testing our devices in real life environments to ensure they have no negative impacts on the environments they go into. We have had a unit deployed for 6 months in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland where it was continuously monitored with underwater cameras and all the reports carried out independently by Queens University Belfast showed no evidence of any negative impacts.
We were subsequently granted planning permission in a Natura 2000 site on the River Shannon, a testament to the safe and environmentally friendly nature of our design. While all our testing to date has been extremely positive we will continue to monitor future deployments for negative impacts as it is a core value to our company that our units work in harmony with nature.

- How do your turbines work?
Our turbines are ‘hydrokinetic’ meaning they produce clean, reliable electricity from the naturally occurring kinetic energy that is found in free flowing water. Our specific range of products are designed to be simple and quick to deploy, modular and cost effective.
- What regions does GKinetic operate in?
GKinetic Energy is headquartered in Newcastle West, based in the South West of Ireland. We are currently focused on kW scale projects with homeowners, farmers and businesses based in Ireland. Where a project overseas is already quite developed with a specific site identified and funding and resources secured we can discuss supplying units. In 2024 we set up a US office based in Milwaukee Wisconsin and we are currently developing projects and funding opportunities in the Wisconsin and Great Lakes region.
- How can a GKinetic turbine benefit my home or business?
One of our 2kW units will output a minimum of 8,500kWh in a year at a suitable site. Most importantly this will be consistent, reliable power and will be most productive in Winter. Requiring no land space, we offer a reliable and predictable on-site source of clean energy generation.
- How much energy will one of your units produce?
How much energy our units will output is reliant on the hydrokinetic resource; how fast the water is flowing, for what % of the year etc. If you have a specific site in mind for an installation get in touch with our sales team who will give an energy output calculation if the required data is available. As a guide or example, in an ideal site, our units will output 6,500kWh/yr per 1kW installed.
- How long does the installation take?
We have put a lot of work and development into ensuring our units can be deployed quickly and simply. Our smaller 1-3 kW units can be installed in just 2-3 hours with no need for any expensive or disruptive civil infrastructure.
